How to measure your bra and cup size
A wrong-sized bra can ruin your day. Your clothes do not fit well and you just don’t feel comfortable during the day. You are feeling all but sexy. This is why proper bra sizes are important. Wrong bra sizes often lead to unnecessary back complaints. It’s a must to buy a comfortable bra with a proper size.
The correct cup size can be determined by measuring the diameter just below your breasts and the diameter around the fullest part of your bust (this is usually at the level of the nipples). Loose up your measuring tape in the latter measurement. The difference between the two measurements determines your cup size. A difference of e.g. 13 cm (approx. 5.2 inches) indicates you have cup size A. Refer to the table below, to determine your own bra size.
Bra sizes table
10 cm. (approx. 4.0 in.) difference = AA-cup
12 cm. (approx. 4.8 in.) difference = A-cup
14 cm. (approx. 5.6 in.) difference = B-cup
16 cm. (approx. 6.4 in.) difference = C-cup
18 cm. (approx. 7.2 in.) difference = D-cup
20 cm. (approx. 8.0 in.) difference = DD-cup
22 cm. (approx. 8.8 in.) difference = E-cup
24 cm. (approx. 9.6 in.) difference = F-cup
You should always try a bra in the fitting room. The measured cup size is an indication of which size you should try on. Each body is different, so each body needs a different bra model. If you have large breasts, you are better off taking a bra with wide straps and a full cup. If you have small breasts, take a half-cup bra just above the nipples. This way, your breasts seem to be more full.
You will know if a bra suits your body in the fitting room. If the fabric shows wrinkled, the cup size is too small. You will find out eventually, do not hesitate to ask information from a sales person from the store, it will make a difference!

I still can’t figure out my bra size. My measurements are as follows;
band size = 38 inches
cup size = 43 inches
Can someone help me figure out the right size. My problem is I have been wearing 38DD or 38D and my breast under the arms kind of hang out. and it doesn’t look right. I wear full figure bras and I think I wear the wrong size.

This site has been very helpful, as I have had my bra size measured by a well known shops, bra fitting staff and each time I have been measured my band size has changed from AA to a size B and back again to a size AA, this had made me confused. This site has helped me to measure my self properly.

I also have been so confused by the varying results I am getting from different measuring guidelines that I have found over the internet. After a weight loss of 60 lbs. I recently had a breast reduction but I am still quite well-endowed, as I wanted to be. The charts seem to be telling me I’m a 40B! My measurements are: ribcage 36 inches, breast 42 inches. Just in case others have the same problem. Whenever I buy demi-bra’s my boobs bulge out on the top a bit making it look rather awful with a tight top on. Today I went shopping and asked the sales lady for a certain type of bra and told her what my problem was. She told me it sounded like I was wearing a too small of a bra. ??????? louise , i think the measurements u mentioned are incorrect…the cup size needs to be greater than the band size..
The diameter around the fullest part of your bust (this is usually at the level of the nipples) is the cup size..
u should use a full-cup bra with wide straps, for the problem of falling out ..

It’s a nice site, very helpfull in deed. BUT, I think one of the problems that seem to confuse a few who visit here is the fact that the measure-chart starts by giving information in the metric system (thank you for this, we are many from Europe who doesn’t use the Imperial system) and the rest of the chart is totally written using th eImperial system. There is NO such sizing in the “Metric countries” as for exampel 25 C, but if you had totld Mads that she should try on a 65 C, she would’ve understod you instantly.
Perhaps an upgrade of this otherwise awesome chart could be a suggestion?
Me, I just reasently went from a 85 D to a 75 D ( that is a 33 D to a 30 D), talk about me not having a bra at home that fitted me properly!

Hello,
I have recently lost a lot of weight and need another new bra. Currently I am 37in ribs/chest and 46.5 in breast.
I like my bras to fit snug on the band to prevent slippage and sagg, and need full cups.
In past when I measure for a bra the band size is correct, but cup size tends to be small, so I am thinking a good fit would be a 36 H - would you agree?
I am concerned if I get a 38 it would be too loose.

I will get a 36H, but am concerned that the cup might be on the small side -I was told that finding a 36I in a soft cup would be very hard, but I can not wear underwire. So I am thinking I could also go 38H and have it altered so I can wear the band smaller, and then see what would give me a better fit.

Here’s a strange one for you, though: My band size is 25in. and my bust is 36in. I’m wearing a 32D, but, it doesn’t fit at all. It seems that anything that fits up top is ten sizes too big around and has straps that are so huge that they simply fall off my shoulders! According to this (and every other) chart, my measurements should place me squarely as an F-Cup, but that’s WAY too big. Arrghhh! Help!

Megan, have you tried a AA sizes (AA34, AA36, AA38)? They can be kind of hard to find in, say, Victoria’s Secret, but you can get them online or at certain specialty stores (i.e. Lady Grace).

I am extremely confused about my bra size. No matter what size i get it always seems wrong. And looking on websites for direction on finding out the proper size seems to vary by every site i go to. Some say add 4 inches to band, some say add 5 inches to band, some dont say to add any! I just measured and this is what i got, Ribs 38 (somewhat snug)/40 (not snug). Chest 41(somewhat snug) 42(not snug). Breast 50/51. Heres the problem, i know that if i “added” 4 or 5 to my band that it would be entirely too huge. Also, i have read to wear a “good” fitting bra in order to get the correct cup size. Well, if i had a “good” fitting bra then i would know what size i am already! Any help you can give me is EXTREMELY appreciated!

Could you have that backwards? I have never seen an L in the US. However, once a couple years ago i was sized and was told i was an H. I didnt believe it though because i usually by DDD’s because they are easy to find in stores and although i have a lot of spileage, i wouldnt think it would be that many sizes different. Maybe it though! Time for a reduction!

Nikki , DDD is nothing but F . Its in this order - DDD,G,H,I,J,K,L ;cup size increasing in small steps. According to the measurements u mentioned , 38L will be a comfortable fit ; DDD cup size will be very small for ur measurement , so the spileage.

This is a very nice site - compliments to you all.
I just recently got sized at Vickie’s Secret. I was told that I was a 32D. . . . I prefer that store and stores like the GAP and stuff rather than Fredrick’s (and other various stores that actually have that size).

x_x; Okay, this doesn’t make ANY sense. I’ve been going to a lot of measuring sites for bust. I have a 27 in. for band size, plus 5 equals 32, and then when I measure my bustline…it’s 31. Am I a friggin’ 32 negative A?? I tried a 32 a bra once and it just about cracked my ribcage because the band was too small (and the cup). This site has probably been the most helpful. I have a 33 (34) band and 38 across my bust, meaning A or B. I wear a 34 B. I’ve tried the way of add like 4 or 5 to your band size and subtract your bust size. I don’t see how this can work because I get a difference of 0 and I know there is no way I am a AA. And Victoria’s Secret measured me as a 36 C. This site is probably the most accurate.

(without adding inches, heard suppose to add 4 if even or 5 if odd but then the band would be more than the bust size confused already!)
Bust: 34 inches
I used to wear 32A but i stopped as they used to make my breast bone ache, I don’t think I am a B cup as to be honest I think I am the smallest you can get!

Hi! I really need some help. I have so much trouble finding a bra. I tried one on today and it was a 38DDD. It fit around the ribcage but I was coming out the top of the cup. The next size up was a 38F but they don’t carry them in the store - you have to special order. That’s my problem. I don’t want to special order if I don’t even know if that’s my size. One more thing to complicate things is that the left breast is bigger than the right. It was the left one jumping out the top today.
My measurments are:
Ribcage = 35
Around nipple = 42.5

Trust your instinct which is to fight
So yeah bottom line dont wear a bra that is tight, it’s like a pair of knickers (hehe thinking to the long granny back in the day with the fart flap in the back!) you wont wear a pair of crotch munchers (err very tight undies) well ladies you do wear some crazy stuff but if it aint comfy give it to Oxfam!

People, remember what the parts of the bra sizing mean: the number is your measurement round the rib cage, just under the breasts. Always buy a bra with that #. Do not be tempted to get a larger # because your boobs spill out or the bra seems small or something. I have the same problem as you, man. I’m some kind of AA or something, but nothing has ever worked. Bra designers neglect us pretty badly. I don’t know what to do about it…. and you’re right, people are really inconsiderate about it…as if we just forgot to grow bigger boobs or something…
got a question. do you have troubles with breathing while wearing bras? I do. I’ve got to find something better. If you ever do, let me know. I’m desperate.

Im not sure what size is correct. I measure to be a 32C but i generally wear a 34C because i can’t find a 32C with big enough cups. What size do i actually wear?

Just make sure you try them on! They must feel supportive to your bust so no pinching etc & all is comfortable Good Luck Ladies xx

I feel REALLY Awful now I’ve been to so many “measure yourself for propler bra size” sites…and Everyone makes me feel worse, How is it possible that I’m a 40 or 41 aa or a? this is depressing. My measurements are just below bra 36′ and across fullest part of breast 41″… My boobs are Big…Why would I be an A cup? Please help me before I give up completely and just stick to my sports bras…I REALLY would like to buy a normal bra…I mean do they even make such a size 40/41 a/aa?

Serena, thats exactly whats happening to me! I wear a 34C, with the band being a tad loose, but when i measure myself according to these sites im like a aaa cup!! I know my breasts sag a bit from pregnancy but they surely aren’t an A cup. Then a while back i went to Victoria’s Secret and the woman measured me to be a 34B and when i tried it on my nipple wasn’t even covered. I don’t understand why we measure differently than what we actually wear
